My name is Bill “Deacon” Moreland I am a Life Member and joined this “Brotherhood of One” in January of 2009. I was the Commander of the TN Valley Chapter and held this position from December of 2020 until being selected to serve as the interim National Commander.
My time with the Defenders started in the original Knoxville Chapter, now Volunteer. From there I transferred to the Upstate Chapter, SC when I moved to that state. I transferred to TN Valley in MAR 2014 when we moved to Maryville, TN.

In December of 2021 the TN Valley Chapter honored me by selecting me as the Member of the Year for our Chapter.
This year while at the National Rally in Hot Springs, AR I received my greatest Honor as a Defender until now with the National Executive Board selecting me to be the Member of the Year, a truly proud, emotional and humbling experience for me.

I have always had a passion for riding motorcycles. When I was in the process of moving from Alaska to Tennessee, I was researching motorcycle clubs to join. I had not ridden with any club since the mid 80’s and I was checking military and law enforcement clubs. I knew I found a brotherhood, not just an MC with the Defenders and I’ve never regretted a day. This Club brings me the opportunity to share this passion with our Brothers and Sisters, a true family. Usually, I ride in excess of 21,000 miles a year and plan on keeping up on two wheels for years to come. When the time comes, I’ll add a sidecar.

My background outside of the Defenders is varied. I worked as a Police Officer for over 20 yrs. I am also retired from the USAF with 25yrs, combined active and reserves - 16yrs-USAF, 3yrs NYS Army National Guard, 6yrs USCG Port Security (Res).
My wife, Mary Kay aka Spyder Woman and I have been together since 2012. She rides a 2015 CAN AM RT LIMITED. Spyder Woman started with the Defenders in the Upstate Chapter. She is a Life Associate and has been a great asset to the TN Valley Chapter.
